The African Avenue team was born and raised in Africa. Deep within our souls and genes lies awareness of the need for balance – to find equilibrium between the excitement of discovering this amazing continent and environmental sensitivity.

Giving back is both our personal and business ethos, and travel holds remarkable power to drive meaningful change. We’ve seen first-hand how tourism can uplift both conservation efforts and local communities, and believe it is only right to give back a fraction of what travelling in Africa gives us.

We are committed to travelling thoughtfully, taking care to see the humanity in every place we visit; not only the beauty but also the struggle, dignity and resilience of Africa’s people and landscape.

“Where you go matters, but it is in the interactions along the way where a greater meaning is to be found”

– Rich

How do we do this?

Partnerships – African Avenue has built relationships with individuals, lodges, hotels, camps and companies that share our vision
Minimising the environmental footprint wherever we travel
Supporting local communities and conservation by working with communities and organisations in a meaningful way, promoting integrity and dignity
Showing communities the economic value of tourism, conservation and wildlife for this and future generations
Our clients support and directly contribute to these conservation and community upliftment goals

Community Care & Support

One of the key goals Rich and I had when we founded African Avenue was upliftment. We live in an incredible country with amazing people and huge potential, but in places accessing education, healthcare and a decent standard of living is a constant challenge. We believe that it is our duty as South Africans to bring about meaningful change in as many of these communities as we can.

With conservation and the preservation of natural resources being a key importance to us, we are proud to contribute to the Timbavati Foundation, an organisation focused on the upliftment of communities surrounding the Kruger National Park’s western boundary.

The Timbavati Foundation was founded in 2001 with an initial emphasis on wildlife education.  In 2010 they registered a capital trust fund and subsequently have focused on four main areas:

“Africa has a way of connecting you to people and nature like few other places on earth.”
